What is RaceTCS

RaceTCS is wheel speed based traction control system. It can be added to almost any car equipped with petrol engine. It is used with success in drag racing, circuit track racing, autocross, sprint car racing, dirt track racing and other disciplines.

Why you need Traction Control

To extract maximum perfroamance from the tire, you have to maintain tire slip in a narrow range. RaceTCS can do this and as a result will make your car faster in straight line or out of a corner. It will let you use maximum available traction for acceleration in all conditions.

Better lap times

Use maximum traction while accelerating. Human reaction time and inputs to the throttle pedal are measured in tenths of a second. Electronics can react in a fraction of a millisecond - this is where the secret lies.

More safety

There is no fun in driving over an ice patch or a wet kerb in RWD car. If your hands are quick enough, you can recover from a spin. If not - you crash. RaceTCS will help you limit engine torque and reduce slip, giving you more time for reaction.

Increased confidence

If you are a beginner driver, you will most certainly fear of using full potential of your car. The risk is highest in RWD cars, where too much power might result in a side crash. Adjust the maximum allowed slip to your liking, so that you can enjoy the loss of traction, but always have a guardian in case you go too far.

How it works

RaceTCS uses input from wheel speed sensors (usually used by ABS) and controls single injection pulses of fuel injectors or ignition coils. When it detects a slip condition and the slip exceeds user set target, it cuts the signal to fuel injector or ignition coil. The pulse is cut as a whole, so either all or no fuel is injected. Because fuel injection/spark happens every few milliseconds (depending on engine RPM and number of cylinders), it reacts very quickly. You can barely feel it working when you hear the change in engine exhaust sound. Fuel cut mode is completely safe for the engine (turbo, supercharged or NA), while spark cut should be used with caution because of heat generated in exhaust system. It has been proven to work over the years on drag strips and race tracks in cars with as little as 100hp and exceeding 1000hp engine output. RaceTCS can be used with carburetted, port fuel injected or direct injection engines.

If your ECU is capable of torque reduction based on external input, RaceTCS outputs 0-5V signal to request torque reduction. This can give more precise control of how and when torque is reduced.

In contrast to the stock traction control system in modern cars, which are using throttle and brakes to limit torque delivered to the wheels, RaceTCS with its control of fuel injectors can be much quicker and more precise. In addition, most stock traction control systems intervene very hard, making it very unpleasant to drive on the limit. Stock systems are not about performance, but safety. RaceTCS is about performance and safety.

RaceTCS effect can be compared to modern ABS system. Human controls brake pressure for all wheels. Without ABS system, the pressure has to be reduced if one of the wheels locks up - otherwise you will burn the tire and the car will pull to one side. Modulating the pressure by foot is slow, inaccurate and unless you are F1 driver, it will result in sub optimal braking distance. The same principle applies to acceleration. When you lose traction, you lift of the gas, wait a moment until slip stops, then accelerate again. The process is very slow. RaceTCS keeps wheel spin in user selectable range, so you can extract maximum acceleration force from the tires.

FAQ

What exactly is RaceTCS?

RaceTCS is a universal aftermarket standalone traction control system. It is Racelogic traction control alternative. It uses wheel speed sensors (usually used by ABS system) and intercepts fuel injector or ignition coil signals to control engine torque. It does not rely on any existing car electronics, except wheel speed sensors.

Is RaceTCS safe for engine?

RaceTCS replicates injector/ignition coil signal coming from ECU and when torque reduction is needed, it cuts whole pulse. There is no way that part of the fuel can get into the cylinder and cause lean burn. Since 2015 , when device was delivered to 1st test cars, there was not a single report of damaged piston or valve due to RaceTCS.

Does RaceTCS raise EGT during operation?

When RaceTCS cuts injection pulse to a cylinder, that cylinder cools itself with incoming air. Because of that , EGT is lower in cylinder , which was cut. In case of spark cut, fuel burns in exhaust system. This raises EGT and can put more stress on turbo or catalytic converter.

Why is RaceTCS better than other alternatives on the market?

RaceTCS is advanced traction control with a price tag of entry level product. It is very easy to setup, comes with predefined settings for many cars. For most cars it works straight out of the box. It is a standalone unit, works with OEM ECUs as well as standalone ECUs. Competitior producs very often are complete ECUs or extension modules for their ECUs. Aftermarket ECU is expensive and very hard to install and setup - requires a professional. With RaceTCS you can retain your stock ECU and all safety features that come with it.

Which cars is it compatible with?

It is compatible with almost every car that has wheel speed sensors and has a petrol engine. You can retrofit wheel speed sensors (OEM or aftermarket) in your car. We can manufacture custom wheel speed triggers. For detailed requirements, please have a look at user manual in support section. RaceTCS has been used in American, European, Japanese, kit cars and single seaters.

If you are not sure whether RaceTCS is compatible with your car, please contact us.

How long do i have to wait for delivery?

We ship worldwide, cost and delivery time depends on location. To North America usually 7 days, EU 3 days, Asia 7 days.

What is included in the package?

RaceTCS V3

RaceTCS V3 package contains RaceTCS device, wiring harness with connector, preset selection potentiometer and plate, indication LED, 100R resistors.

We offer complete plug and play harnesses for specific car models. Please contact us for availability and pricing.

RaceTCS V2

RaceTCS V2 package contains RaceTCS device, connectors, USB cable, preset selection potentiometer and plate, indication LED, 100R resistors, mounting brackets.

Can I install it myself?

Many users install RaceTCS on their own. Installation requires basic knowledge of electrics. Experience with multimeter, soldering iron is a must. If you do not feel confident, leave it to a professional.

How to tune RaceTCS?

Application package contains setting files tested in many different car models. These range from small capacity turbocharged engines to big V8 with a supercharger. These setting files were tuned for specific car, so it is very good baseline. You can change PID settings and other parameters yourself. You can also ask for help via message form. Later you can attach a log file and configuration to email. Usually you will receive a response with modified configuration and suggestions for fine tuning within 24h.

Can you recommend workshops that can install RaceTCS?

List of recommended workshops will be growing with time. We recommend :

How is the adjustment done?

Adjustment is done via 11 position potentiometer with a knob (included in the package). It can be hidden (e.g. in ash tray) and should be mounted within driver's reach. Drilling a hole to mount the potentiometer might be required.

My car is fairly new and stock TCS is adjustable. Why should I bother with RaceTCS?

Very few cars have stock TCS that is performance oriented. For sure you tried to drive on the edge with your RWD car and traction control slammed on the brakes. It cut the engine power and you could not accelerate for a moment. This slows you down. On the other hand, when it is slippery, you might be afraid to disable traction control completely. If you feel that your stock TCS is too strict, slows you down and takes the fun away, then RaceTCS is your best choice.

Does RaceTCS interfere with stock TCS or ABS?

RaceTCS in no way affects stock ESP/TCS or ABS, as they do not communicate. It uses the same sensors as ABS, but operates separately, it does not require ABS to be present. You can have stock ESP/TCS and RaceTCS on or off separately.

Do I need to activate it every time i start the car?

RaceTCS is active as soon as you turn on the ignition.
